The Pros and Cons of Home Workouts
Due to Covid-19, many people are stuck with working out at home. While there are many advantages of being in a well-equipped gym, working out at home is not bad at all. With some simple equipment, a few apps, and some dedicated time, you can efficiently work out at home. However, just like with a gym, there are pros and cons of working out at home too.
Pros of working out at home:
1. Cannot make excuses at all
It is easy to say “the gym was closed” or “it’s raining outside” to make it impossible to get to the gym. Working out at home will not allow you to make such excuses at all. All you need is space enough for you to stretch out completely and you are all set.
2. Your workouts are private
There is a ton of equipment in the gym, and most of us feel awkward about trying out new machines. You can save yourself from this embarrassment if you work out at home. You can play (blast) your favorite songs, try new moves, and not worry about messing up.
3. Budget-friendly
Even if you are given a huge discount, a gym membership is certainly more expensive than working out at home. Along with basic fees, you may end up paying for the lockers, sauna, or steam rooms too. Home workouts can be as minimalistic or elaborate as you need them to be, without the extra cost.
Cons of working out at home:
1. Lack of motivation
It may be easy to work out at home. But sometimes you need the motivation, and that comes only from watching several others going about their workouts sincerely. In a gym, you also have physical trainers offering their expertise besides several others. Home workouts miss out on this aspect. Therefore, a lack of motivation is a major con of working out at home.
2. Limited equipment options and services
You may be paying through your nose for your gym membership. But that comes with access to a ton of things. For instance, you have the best equipment to work out with, trainers for assistance, sauna, and steam rooms, massage services, and so on. Working out at home may be lighter on your wallet, but you do not have access to the abovementioned services.
As we have seen, there are both pros and cons of working out at home. It is up to you to choose the option that works for you. If you love exercising with your friends and do not mind paying extra, the gym might be a better option for you. However, if you are self-motivated and are running low on budget, choose the home workout option.
